Pea Vine Fall

Last week I visited Oak Mountain State Park located in Pelham, Alabama. After hiking for a ways, I stopped and took a few shots of Pea Vine Falls.

I recently listened to a photographer who spoke about visiting a water fall in his state. Even though he had visited and photographed the fall many times before, this time he was carrying a friend for his first visit. While his friend was shooting, he decided that he wanted to shoot the fall differently than he had in the past. He ended up focusing on a rock in the foreground with the water fall appearing in the background.  Hearing him speak inspired me to photograph Pea Vine in a similar way.

  1. Happy New Year, Phillip!

These are wonderful images and they look super in the larger version. You did a nice job on these.

I’ve been wanting to do a waterfall for some time now and it is on my list for this Spring.

    1. Thanks Jimi. I appreciate you looking and commenting on the enlargement. I haven’t included this option before. It’s nice to hear from someone who used it.

  2. Happy New Year, Phillip!
I love the contrast between the dynamics of the running water and the stillness of the rocks. And the cool colours are just fittingly for the mood the pictures create. My favourite is the first one.

  3. Both images are very attractive, Phillip, and it’s interesting, then, that the first one caught my attention very strongly even before I’d read your words, or realised what actual technique you’d used.

    1. Thank you for sharing that Andrew. I agree. I’ve since spotted other photographers who have done something similar, and their images have really stood out to me because of hearing this fellow speak.
