Ole Summer Days

old pier supports

A few weeks ago I was working in Gadsden, Alabama and stopped by a river side park for lunch. This little area reminded me of summer as a child and the days that we would go swimming.

In the above image I used the Glamor Glow filter in Color Efex Pro 3.0 to add the warm golden glow you see in the image. After I completed using Color Efex Pro 3.0 on this image, I opened it in Viveza 2.  For the reader who isn’t aware of family of NiK Software, I’d like to explain that the software uses what NiK calls U-Points that allows adjustments to be made at both the global and pixel levels.  For a example,  I was able to make separate adjustments not only of each pier support, but also the reflection of each support.  There can be as many small or large adjustment area as you need.  The more that I use this wonderful set of tools the more that I learn. If you would like to learn more about NiK check out their website.

I really like the boat houses and piers. After processing these using Lightroom 3, Dfine 2.0,  Color Efex Pro 3.0, and Viveza 2, I also further processed a couple of the images using Silver Efex Pro 2.

Beautiful images Phillip – I especially like the first image and the deep reflections.

Thanks Curt. I also like the that image. However, it is the glamor glow filter that really make that image pop.

Phillip….. Great stuff as usual. Very nice use of NIK’s tools. I especially love the B&W. You need to come back up here and show me how to use Silver Effex. I have it but have yet to get into it.

Hello Tony! Thanks for visiting and the wonderful comment. The truth is that I’m also fairly new to Silver Efex pro, but I enjoy using it. I’ve thought about trying to drop by your gallery several times when I found myself in visiting the area. I’m suppose to be up there again on Monday relocating a system. If I have any time afterwards I’ll try an drop by.

Excellent work! I have been considering Silver EFEX Pro for better black and white processing, now you have made me aware of another program to purchase.

Thanks Rob. I really have enjoyed playing around with Silver Efex. I just framed my first one today. It was a image from Bodie.

I really like the first shot here. Great color and reflections! I love NIK’s stuff, and need to check this program out! a little pricey for me at the moment though..

Thanks Adam! I understand about the cost. I use the Lightroom version which is less expensive than the one for Photoshop.
