Jubilee

A few weeks ago we visited Decatur for the Alabama Jubilee.

This is a hot air balloon event and is held annually each Memorial Day weekend. We enjoyed the trip.

It is amazing to see these huge colorful balloons. This was our third visit to the Jubilee.

On earlier visits the balloons didn’t fly on Saturday because of the wind. However, this afternoon some of the balloons were able to lift off for a short flight.

Others remained tethered and gave “rides” to the visitors.

In the evening we watched as they fired up the balloons. For obvious reasons they call this glowing.

Then Sunday the balloons flew over the park from across the river.

    Wowza, Phillip!
What a great collection of balloon photos, man. They all look amazing. Love the bokeh on that third shot above. 🙂

This looks like it was a blast, I’m sure you all really enjoyed it. Nice work getting these shots.

Thanks Jimi. That bokeh was a texture I used from OnOne. I recently updated my plug-in to 8.5. It’s really nice.

I have always been fascinated by hot air balloon festivals, but so far haven’t had a change to neither participate nor photograph. You really came back with some awesome images from this festival. Beautiful light, beautiful colours and beautiful composition.

Thank you Otto. This was our third trip and it was a lot of fun. The guests are free to walk among the balloons, take photos, and talk with the different crew members.

That third shot is stunning but my attention was grabbed with the first one. Excellent captures
